Brest Augmentation Dr. Margolis is the only cosmetic surgeon in the New England area currently doing breast augmentations with local anesthesia. What are the benefits of having breast implants in Dr. Margolis’ office? - Pure local anesthesia without intravenous sedation or general anesthesia make for optimal safety.
- The New England Vein and Lipo Center has full certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations.
- Cost effective and affordable with no hospital fees.
How is breast augmentation done without general anesthesia or even intravenous sedation? Dr. Margolis uses the same local anesthetic as he does with tumescent liposuction.
Why is it safer with this method? Most surgical catastrophes occur due to being put to sleep or depressing breathing with intravenous drugs.
How is the procedure done? The implants are rolled up, inserted through a small incision, placed under the muscle, and then filled with saline.
Why do you use saline implants and not the recently approved silicon implants? Saline, a salt solution is “physiologic,” meaning compatible with the human body. If a leakage of the saline implant occurs, it is harmlessly reabsorbed and the implant is easily replaced. If, however, a leakage occurs in a silicone implant, the silicone is not reabsorbed and tends to stick to the surrounding deep breast tissue making it difficult to clean out surgically.
Why do you place the implant under the muscle? Dr. Margolis prefers this implant position for two main reasons. First, the implant is covered by both the muscle and the patient’s existing breast tissues, that is not detectable by touch, giving a more natural appearance. The second reason for placing the implant under the muscle is the observation of less incidence of capsular contraction.
Will there be a lot of pain? Before Dr. Margolis begins the procedure, the patient takes an oral pill for relaxation and then a numbing solution is inserted making the entire procedure relatively painless.
Will I have a large visible scar? The incision is approximately 1½ inches long, and is placed within the natural crease under the breast making it literally invisible. The short length can only be done with saline whereas silicone implants come already filled thus needing larger incisions and resulting in a larger scar.
How will I know if the implants are the right size for me? Because you are awake, you can view yourself in mirror prior to end of case assuring that you are happy with symmetry and size.
How long is the surgery? The procedure usually takes about 2 hours. We will provide you with everything you need and you will walk out of the office about 30 minutes after the end of the procedure.
What are the potential complications of breast implantation? With all surgeries the two most common immediate complications are bleeding and infection. There is no blood loss with this technique and infections are rare. A long-term change to the implant is capsular contraction. This happens when fibrous tissue covers the implant and makes it slowly become firm. Placing the implant under the muscle lowers the occurrence of capsular contraction as do simple daily exercise to implants.
Will I have a lot of pain during recovery? Most patients experience moderate discomfort and manage it with over the counter pain medication and if needed a stronger analgesic.
When can I return to my normal activities? You may resume light activities within 24 hours and normal activities from 4 to 7 days post surgery.
I know you said it was affordable but what is the total cost? Consultations with Dr. Margolis are free and the entire cost for the breast implants, including follow up visits, is $4500. We will provide patients with financing information upon request. Can I speak with patients who have had the procedure? Since our patients are so pleased and excited with their results, they are happy to share their experience with women considering breast implants. We will provide you with their contact information at your consultation.
