A patient's journal of her experierence  2/23/2007:

The Consultation:
During the thirty minute drive to Concord, my mind flashed back to my teenage years. I vividly remembered the pain that I had endured during that time because so many of my peers, and even family members, made fun of me. For most teenagers going shopping was fun, but for me it was  embarrassing and humiliating because nothing fit.

I decided to have a consultation with Dr. Margolis about breast augmentation because now, even as an adult, I continued to be distressed by my small breasts. However, despite my embarrassment and emotional pain, I had made up my mind that I would only get implants when I didn’t have to go under general anesthesia and I didn’t have to go into a hospital for the procedure. Going into a hospital increased the risk of infection as well as the cost.

Making the decision to have a consultation was difficult but after meeting Dr. Margolis and his staff I knew I did the right thing going to The New England Vein and Lipo Center. Everybody in the office was wonderful and they made me feel welcomed and relaxed. I came prepared with a list of questions about the procedure and expressed my concerns about breast cancer detection. Dr. Margolis answered them thoroughly and he provided me with answers that alleviated my concerns. I immediately booked my surgery for the next week.

The Day of My Surgery:
My breast augmentation procedure was scheduled for 9:30. I had a friend drive me to Dr. Margolis’ office and I was actually quite surprised at how calm I was. When we entered his office, I was really excited, because now at age fifty-eight (it’s never too late), my life long dream was coming true. I was going to have the implants in a physician’s office, under local anesthesia, and I was saving thousands of dollars by not going to a hospital.

The staff prepared me for surgery and they gave me a pill to help me relax. All throughout the procedure, I only had a few seconds of discomfort and I was so alert that I was actually able to sit up and check to see if I was happy with the size. It was comforting to know that if I wasn’t satisfied, Dr. Margolis would be able to fill the implant with more saline. Knowing that I could do this, made me feel that I was in control of the outcome.

When the procedure was over, the staff put a special bra on me, I got dressed, and walked out of the office to the car. My friend tells me that I kept falling asleep during the drive, but I wasn’t in any pain at all. After what I’ve seen on television “make over shows,” I was absolutely amazed at how good I felt. When I arrived home, I fell asleep on the couch, woke up to eat dinner, and then slept until the next morning.

Day One:
My breasts were swollen and my skin was hot. I took Arnica tablets as well as Advil for discomfort. I rested all day, read a book, and watched television. I also slept for awhile.

Day Two:
I
was still swollen and my skin felt hot so I continued to use Arnica tablets.  I took Advil until the afternoon. I was totally alert all day but just decided to rest and give my body time to recover.

Day Three:
I did not need any oral pain medication. I decided to rest for the day and was totally alert and comfortable.

Day Four:
My skin seemed a lot cooler and the swelling started to go down.  I drove myself to Dr. Margolis’ office for my first follow up visit. He was very pleased with everything and gave me exercises to do. I also got permission to take a shower…YIPPEE!!!

Day Five:
I felt really good. I showered, did my exercises, and completely resumed my normal routine.

Day Six:
Another great day… I almost forgot that I had surgery six days ago.

Day Seven:
One week since surgery and I am so happy that I found Dr. Margolis. I am feeling sexy, very feminine and energized.

Week Two:
The swelling is just about gone. There is a little tenderness around the implant when I touch my skin. I can now wear a regular bra but I need to avoid underwire bras for a year. Just threw away all my padded bras – Whoopie - and I actually fill a 36C cup and have cleavage! WOW…I really love how I look!!!

Week Three:
During the week, I started to feel a little itchy so I knew I was healing. The small scar is not noticeable and the bruising is totally gone. Three cheers for Dr. M. and his wonderful staff!

One Month:
Bought all new tops (had to give away all my old tops because of the NEW ME).

Two and a Half Months:
My breasts have dropped into place and they look so natural no one would ever believe that I have implants.

Month Four:
My husband is a Very Happy Man!

Dear Dr. Margolis:

I was always self conscious about being “flat chested” but now after the work you have done my confidence is the best it has ever been.

“Dr. Margolis you were correct.  My enhanced body figure makes me radiate happiness in my attitude and overall well being.”

“Being awake throughout I cannot believe how easy and pain free the procedure was.  My smooth recovery surprised a friend who had her implants done under general anesthesia.  I absolutely love my new breasts, thanks to all of you.”

“My breast implant procedure was the best present I have ever given to myself.  Dr. Margolis you are my hero!”
